Animal Testing.
(this is Holly, Waffle's litter mate)
Thank you everyone for your responses the other day. I have been doing a lot of reading the past few days and I admit I have been willfully ignorant about some things. One thing is Animal Testing. I never bought anything KNOWING they tested on animals but I admit to not checking if a company does before I buy something. No more. The thought of someone shoving makeup in Waffle or Daisyboo's eye is enough to make me cry just to think of it. So I have been doing some research on the things I have. I am not going to throw out the stuff I already have because honestly that is a waste and it won't matter to them but I can make sure not to support those companies.
Companies I was buying won't be buying anymore:
L'Oreal (hair color, lipstick, primer, makeup)
Kiehls (This one is a grey area. They are owned by L'Oreal who does test. So money in same pocket)
Maybelline (miscellaneous makeup)
Dove (deodorant, body wash)
Oral B (tooth paste)
Neutrogena (sunscreen, face wash)
Shisedo (face wash)
Vaseline (lotion)
Suave (shampoo for Dave)
Purell (hand sanitizer)
Old Spice (deodorant for Dave)
Olay (face moisturizer)
Arm and Hammer (cleaning products)
Lancome (makeup)
Tide (detergent)
Procter and Gamble
And on the upside companies I use that DO NOT test on animals!
(which honestly takes up honest at least 80+% of my stuff thank god)
MAC
Chanel
Bath and Body Works
Aveda
Avon
Bobbi Brown
Bonne Bell
Essie
Estee' Lauder
La Mer
Lush! (I love lush SO MUCH)
OPI
Ojon
Urban Decay
These aren't comprehensive lists just ones I had interactions with.

If you have a suggestion of a product you have personally used and loved that I could get when I run out of the above I would appreciate it.
Now if you do think animal testing is ok can I ask that you do not post that in the comments? Or better yet please go post why on your blog and give me a link to it and I would love to read about it, honestly. I like to know the why and why nots of all situations, (this is why I A'ced Debate I always like to know both sides of things) but I just don't want to post the pros on my personal site.

I won't lie: I loaded up the links, and hesitated. I didn't want to leave that state of "ignorance is bliss". Sure enough, my major products do test on animals. Heartbroken.
While I'd love to choose more friendly products I find myself in a difficult situation: a number that do test on animals are the only products I've found that don't cause me to have massive reactions (Dove, Sunlight, Aveeno). That's going to be something I'm going to have to weigh out in my head and heart.
It also gets exhausting deciding where to draw my moral line. Do I just not buy products that test on animals? Do I not buy anything made of an animal (no leather, suede, etc)? Do I stop eating meat? Do I go vegan? I'm not a great debater, so I usually don't weigh in on any of it. I just try and do what I feel is right inside.
Smashbox does not do animal testing.
I became aware of this a few years back and try to look for the sign, however I had no idea that DOVE deos were animal tested or OLAY moisturizer. I use those product, it's awful to even think of it - I will begin looking for a replacement.
Thanks for posting this. I really haven't looked into the animal testing, but it's true that once you know, it's impossible to go back to "not-knowing."
Out of curiosity, how do you feel about animal testing for drug therapy research and development?
Makeup is NOT necessary so it's not necessary to endanger animals lives.
