Feeling pampered
Last Wednesday Dave was on a business trip and wasn't going to be home until later in the evening so I decided to do a little leisurely shopping on Newbury St.I might of had a cupcake for dinner. I can not confirm or deny that though. I had intended to stop in Chanel and buy myself a lip gloss I had been eyeballing because I made a little mad money on a freelance job. $28 is out of my budget for lip gloss but lordy do I love theirs.
When I got there I knew they were closing in an hour so I expected like most stores on Newbury to be ignored and left on my own. This was not the case. A person greeted me and I told her I was there to look at the makeup and she told me Fiona would join me shortly. Fiona a beautiful woman with an Irish accent came over and when I told her I was treating myself she helped me pick the perfect "everyday color but with a little pizazz because it is Chanel" After I had tried a few on I settled on one. She grabbed a chair and turned on a light and said "Do you want me to put it on you?" Well putting gloss on me turned into an entire face makeover. She positively doted on me. She knew I couldn't afford it and she didn't try to sell me anything. It was refreshing and amazing. She then said "OH let me give you a sample of a new men's perfume that isn't even out yet."
I thanked her profusely and then she goes "oh you can't go without a sample" Then she pulls out this box....You slide the middle out and you get this neat little book and small bottle of the scent.

Then she gives me a little hard bound book.

It details a line of unique fragrances for our region and each scent is meant to represent a moment in Coco Chanel's life. My sample is her first jewelry store and meant to smell like sparkling jewels. Then she gave me the cutest little mascara sample and went to check me out. They don't check you out on the floor. Instead they take it behind a mirrored door and you wait amongst the jewelry counters and they BRING YOU PERRIER while you wait. When she came back she had my receipt in a little embossed envelope and an adorable carrier bag with the flower on it. She made me feel special. For a moment I felt like I actually mattered. Most fancy stores like that I have gone in on that same street have treated me like garbage. They see me walking in and instantly all decide to ignore me because they know I can't afford to shop there. Fiona made me feel like they enjoyed having me and that it was OK that I couldn't afford anything but was welcome to come in and enjoy just the same. I spent $28 but I was treated like I dropped a thousand. She took my email too and said would email me when they have new makeup stuff coming out so I could get a sneak on the new hot colors. As someone who got Nouvelle Vague and Laser before they sold out BY SHEER LUCK I was excited at the idea of knowing before they were in a magazine and everyone bought them up. She also wrote everything she used on me on the back of her card Incase I might want to know for later. I totally gave the card to Dave. My birthday is coming and I am no fool.

The lip gloss I got is called Spark. While at $28 it is a budget buster I really think it is worth saving up for if you are into that kind of stuff.(Or can do some side work like I did. I hold the belief any money made outside of my normal job is allowed to be spent on frivolities) The quality is excellent and they have this very great knack of getting a color not quite like any else out there (Let me tell you I should know!) I know a lot of people are thinking "Who cares you are just impressed by the name" Well you're right. I grew up thinking Chanel was the ultimate sign of luxury. I would sneak sprays of No5 from my rich aunts bathroom. They just have a beautiful luxurious aesthetic I enjoy. Modern sleek packaging. Dave who is NOT impressed by label got a little excited as I showed him what I got. he asked for the box to my perfume sample when I am done with it. (I think he wants to use the idea for something) He loved how the sample floated in a little cut through hole that let light shine though and highlight the bottle. He also has been using his sample and putting it back on the card every morning. I told him he could throw the card away and he made a insulted face at me.
I won't be buying any shoes from there any time soon but a girl can dream can't she?

A good salesperson sees that there is no small customer. BTW You will go back and get shoes !
And I totally remember sneaking some of my rich aunt's Chanel No. 5 perfume too, when we would visit her....she had the most amazing ensuite bathroom and she had everything for Chanel No. 5....the lotion, bubble bath, parfum.
I'm glad to hear about your experience- how lucky! It sounds like a visit to Chanel's site for a testimonial may be in order for that caliber of service.
I too wish that I could patronize Fiona. Would you give us a birthday heads up, so I can remember you?
Also, Estee Lauder is awesome. It's about all my mom uses (and I love it too although I'm not THAT loyal to the brand).
I'm terrified to go into high-end stores like that because I still feel like a little girl that doesn't belong there.
